5. Getting Started

Getting Started

When is a good time to get started?

Like most Scouts, BSA Troops, we go year-round.  You can become a scout at anytime. Just contact our leaders or, just show up at one of our meetings....

When do we meet?

Troop Meetings (when all of our scouts get together in the same place - with the Scoutmaster) are normally held every Monday evening, 6:30 to 8pm.  During the summer months, we meet at Pearson Park, but when school is in session, we meet at the First Alliance Church on Mission Meade Drive.

To verify meeting times, you can check the calendar here.

What is the Cost of Joining?

First - don't let the cost scare you off.  It's not that expensive and our Troop is able to assist if you need help.  The person to see about assistance is the Committee Chair. This will be kept between you and them but you can tend to that later.

Second - After the National BSA registration costs paid online, about $115, the annual dues is $72.00.  A new uniform runs around $80.00 but the shirt is good for up to 8 years, so uniform costs do go down as you move through the ranks.  The Troop will provide the handbook and merit badge sash.  Summer Camps can run between $300-$500 for a normal year.  We use the Popcorn Fundraiser to cover the remaining costs.

We are not worried about the fees being paid up front.  We can work with you.  Scouting is actually quite reasonable considering all that your son will be doing throughout the year.  Don't let the cost get in the way of your decision.
